It took some time [couple/few months] for Goku to trust and open up to us after arriving at the sanctuary, but he sure is starting to blossom and is exuding sheer joy as of late! When he first arrived, he didn’t want to leave his crate and didn’t look anyone in the eye. Pictured here is what the daily interaction with crew member, Melissa, looks like. What a turnaround!! Goku is stunningly beautiful and has a pure heart of gold. We love him! #milosanctuary #alaskanmalamute #dogsmiles ... See MoreSee Less

A cat with a “tipped” left ear means he/she has been TNR’d (trapped, neutered, returned) and belongs to a managed colony. Ear-tipped cats should not be taken to the humane society/shelter. Instead, leave them right where they are in their own outdoor territory. Studies have shown their presence prevents other cats from moving into the area. And because TNR'd cats have been spayed or neutered, they will never contribute to the overpopulation problem. #TNR

Unfortunately Rudy and Buddy did not find their forever home yet. PLEASE SHARE FOR THEM!!!

Rudy and Buddy are two older gentlemen looking for a home to spend the rest of their lives in.
Rudy is about 9-10 years old and is a Lab. Buddy is 7-8 years old and is a Springer Spaniel.
These boys lost their dad and have done nothing but cry and crave human attention since arriving at the shelter. They are nothing but pure sweetness.
They get along with other dogs, and would do best with no younger children due to never being around them.
We would LOVE to find these boys a forever home together if possible.

Apply for one or both of them at bcfanimalrefuge.org!

Pets On Board

1 year.

13 months.

It has been 381 Days since I first arrived at the shelter. Every day I hear the footsteps of people, the conversations of families who have come here to find their new best friend. Everyday I sit in my room waiting for a new face to see, a new voice to hear, a future home to live in.

But they never come.

“Maybe tomorrow.”

I lay in bed eagerly waiting for tomorrow, excited that maybe tomorrow it might it. A future full of happiness, a future beyond the shelter walls. A loving home.

Maybe it’s cause I prefer to be with no dogs or cats, maybe it’s cause I love kids too much and want to play with them a little too rough, maybe it’s cause I’m too jumpy when someone walks into my room, but I can’t help it. I’m just too excited! Maybe the staff is taking me out to meet my new family!

We go out the door, and we walk. We walk through the grass, we walk down the street. We walk and walk. Where are they? Are they hiding?

We walk, and soon we’re back in the shelter. I’m brought back to my room, and with a kiss and a sad smile the staff walks out.

I want someone to love, and I want someone to love me back. A forever love, one that as much as they want and try, the staff can’t give me.

It’s been 381 days.

❤️ Millie

Hello, my name is Major! I'm an adult Great Dane mix! While the shelter staff doesn't know my exact age they tell me I'm an adult but that I'm approaching my older years. I love going for walks and playing with the staff and volunteers. I love hugs, and kisses and play well with dogs.

So why am I still here?

I'm all happy and energetic when I'm beyond the shelter walls. The fresh air and all the green around me just make me so happy! But when they tell me that it's time to go back, and I walk through those doors and back into my kennel I can't help but wonder why I'm still here. It's so loud and overwhelming, but at least my piggy gives me some comfort. Just laying in my bed, with him in my mouth reassures me that someone will come for me one day. It may not be today, it may not be this month, but someday someone will come get me, right? Someone will choose me to love and be loved. Someone will give me all the love and affection I deserve.

It's ok. I'm willing to wait.

The MAD Dog trailer is once again loaded up and on it's next rescue mission. Barely back home for more than an hour from helping evacuate animals up in Redding from the #CarrFire, MAD Dog Rescue Director, Ryan, and partner, Sam, are once again at the wheel and are now headed up to Lakeport where the #MendocinoComplexFire quickly turned into a major emergency a couple of hours ago. Lake County Animal Care and Control is being evacuated as we type this, as well as a couple of animal shelters in Kelseyville. New evacuation orders are being issued all the time as the threat increases. THERE ARE MANY ANIMALS IN NEED!!! Once again, many thanks to the Milo Foundation and to everyone who dropped off yet more wire crates there at such short notice earlier this afternoon. Ryan loaded the crates into the MAD Dog trailer earlier and should be up in the Lakeport evacuation area shortly. THERE WILL BE ANOTHER TRANSPORT HEADING UP TO LAKEPORT TOMORROW FROM THE MILO FOUNDATION AND THERE IS GREAT NEED FOR THE ITEMS LISTED BELOW: If you could please deliver any of these items to the Milo Foundation as early as possible in the day tomorrow, it would be very much appreciated. Thank you!

Paper Towels
Crates of all sizes
Cat carriers
X Pens
Trash bags
Puppy pads
Dog and Cat Food
Cat Litter
Litter trays and litter scoops
Leashes and collars

Photos from the front line in Redding courtesy of MAD Dog Director, Ryan! It’s been a super busy 24 hours for Ryan and his partner, Sam, helping to transport several hundred animals from Haven Humane Society to a safe evacuation location. This evening Carol of MAD Dog Rescue arrived in Redding with the MAD Dog trailer full of much needed wire crates, and the final transport of the day was made!! Many of the crates came from the Milo Foundation! Thank you Milo Foundation!!! Well over 300 animals are now safely housed in the evacuation facility and many local volunteers have been hard at work all day making sure each animal has food and water and is taken out for regular potty breaks. There is an amazing amount of team work happening in Redding to keep the animals safe! And thank you so much to everyone here who has donated so generously either financially or by providing crates. Your support is truly appreciated!! We will keep you posted! ... See MoreSee Less

Millie is 110% pure joy!!! 😍 I loved every second spent with her today. She’s is one of the longest pup residents at the shelter and I am not sure why. She’s so darling. She loves treats, being with people, walks well on the leash and just is an absolute love bug. An adopter would be lucky to have this girl! Please share. ❤️ ... See MoreSee Less
